Laparoscopic Surgery, also called “keyhole” surgery, uses a special fiber optic camera called a laparoscope to visualize the interior of the abdominal cavity. Instead of one large incision used in traditional surgeries, several tiny (5-10mm) incisions are made through which the laparoscope and several small, specially designed surgical instruments are inserted. The surgeon performs the surgery using images from inside the abdomen which are projected onto a computer screen.
