St. Catherine of Siena’s 17th Annual Gala Honors Suffolk County’s Finest

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center held its 17th Annual Gala on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Oheka Castle in Huntington. More than 450 attendees were greeted at the castle with champagne and the soothing sounds of a live harpist as they walked into a welcome area filled with raffle baskets—all to support the hospital and its future developments.

Most Reverend Andrzej Zglejszewski, D.D. of The Diocese of Rockville Centre was in attendance to show support and delivered a thoughtful and uplifting invocation during the awards ceremony.

This year Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini was honored for his commitment to ethics, community, integrity and faith. Also awarded at the gala was Dr. Sanford Scheman, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to the medical center for nearly five decades, and Mario Mattera, recipient of the hospital’s Theodore Roosevelt Volunteer Award for distinguished service.

St. Catherine of Siena’s Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Paul J. Rowland thanked the many guests for supporting the hospital, provided updates on accomplishments and strategic initiatives. “Tonight is a celebration of our 51st year as a Medical Center—the only one in the town of Smithtown—dedicated to the communities we service—we provide over $500 million in economic benefit in Smithtown and Suffolk County,” said Mr. Rowland. “Proceeds from this event will ultimately help our patients—so I thank you for coming and thank you for your support.”

The annual gala is the most prominent fundraiser, organized by the hospital’s Foundation and with continued support from premier platinum sponsors including—St. Catherine Of Siena Medical Staff and Island Medical Management, along with gold sponsor Suffolk Anesthesia Associates, and silver sponsor, Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees—the event raised $286,120.00 in gross proceeds. Proceeds will help support the build of a new EMS access entrance on the medical center campus.
