A Lot to Celebrate at St. Catherine

In honor of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, USA, who was born on October 31, 1860, Brownie Troop 393 from Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Smithtown, decided to celebrate her birthday by making a gift basket for the first baby girl born at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center on October 31.

Shea Nordon, 7lbs. 8oz., 191/2 in., was the first baby girl born on this special day at St. Catherine's. Brownie’s Kirsten LaDouce, Hannah Rubesh, and Emily Goldberg came to visit with their moms, and with their eyes lit up, presented baby Shea, and her mother Chanielle, with a basket filled with everything a little baby girl would need. From blankets to toys, essential to non-essential, the basket was brimming with the sweetest pink gifts.

Sharon Kennish, RN, Executive Director & Chief Administrative Officer at St. Catherine, a former Brownie and Girl Scout herself, was particularly impressed by their visit. “Being a Brownie and Girl Scout was such a positive experience in my life. We welcome these young women and their moms to St. Catherine. The Brownies and Girl Scouts are an invaluable part of our community. They inspire us, and by coming to St. Catherine, demonstrate their commitment to the mission of the organization and to the future generations of Girl Scouts. They certainly made a difference for Chanielle and her baby, Shea,” said Ms. Kennish.
