St. Catherine of Siena Medical
Center Appoints Michael A. Maina Vice Chairperson for the
Board of Trustees

Smithtown, NY – St. Catherine of Siena
Medical Center, Smithtown, recently named Michael A. Maina,
Vice Chairperson for the Board of Trustees. As a member of
the board since 2000, he has also served as its Treasurer
and Chair of the Board’s finance committee.
Mr. Maina has retired from the Elwood Public School District
after serving 38 years in public education. He spent his last
15 years in education as Superintendent of Schools in the
Elwood school district. During his years in education, Mr.
Maina has taught graduate courses in school business management
and finance as well as serving as lecturer and presenter at
numerous workshops, conferences and seminars on school-related
topics. He also served as a special finance associate in the
Patchogue-Medford, East Williston and Hauppauge school districts.

a group of strong, talented, dedicated community leaders with
diverse backgrounds and expertise. Our common goal is to continue
to provide patients with the best health care available and
to oversee all hospital- related matters. As Vice Chair, I

Chairman of the Board, fellow board members and administration,”
said Mr. Maina.
Mr. Maina has also been a member of various professional
associations and organizations throughout the community. He
is past-president of the Suffolk County Association of School
Business Officials and also served 11 years as a member of
Section XI of the New York State Public High Schools Athletic
Association and has been the chair of its finance committee
for 6 years.
Mr. Maina serves as a trustee for Christ the King Church
in Commack. He and his wife Virginia reside in Commack where
they have lived for 34 years and raised 3 children: Jennifer,
Michael and Kelly.
St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is a member of Catholic
Health Services of Long Island and is devoted to providing
