An Act of Kindness Benefits
Children of the Community
During
National Nurse’s Week the “family” at St.
Catherine’s Medical Center raised $7,000 to benefit
Angela’s House, Hauppauge, a home for medically fragile
and technology dependent children, which was established by
Angie and Bob Policastro. Angie is a nurse at St. Catherine’s.
In 1989, the Policastro’s daughter, Angela, was born
with severe brain damage and required a specialized treatment
facility. With no facility available on Long Island, the Policastro’s
were forced to place Angela in a facility in Connecticut.
In response to their own personal tragedy, the Policastro’s
established the Association for Technology Dependant Children.
Through their efforts, the ATDC opened Angela’s House
in East Moriches, and most recently, Angela’s House
II in Smithtown. Angela’s House relies on private donations
to ease the financial burdens of the families, provide medical
supplies, therapeutic equipment and other aspects that will
enhance their residents’ lives.

In April, St. Catherine’s underwent a successful Joint
Commission Survey thanks to the hard work and dedication of
the staff. To honor the efforts and achievement of the reaccredidation,
the administration at St. Catherine’s decided to match
the dollars raised. Recently, a check for $14,000 was presented
to Angie and Bob Policastro at Angela’s House II in
Smithtown. St. Catherine’s was thrilled to present it
and Angela’s House was grateful to receive it.
