Trouble Sleeping?
St. Catherine’s Has the Answer
Hospital Opens New Sleep Disorders Center
Sleep accounts for one third of our lives. Adequate sleep
is essential to good health, and many of us just don’t
get enough. Sleep apnea occurs in 25% of the population, to
varying degrees of severity. Individuals, who snore loudly,
especially if they experience sleepiness during the day, should
be suspected of having sleep apnea. Sleep apnea leads not
only to daytime sleepiness, but can trigger high blood pressure,
heart disease, stroke, morning headaches, and lack of concentration.
Other forms of sleep disorders can include Periodic Limb Movements,
Restless Leg Syndrome, REM (Rapid Eye Movement) Behavior Disorder,
narcolepsy and insomnia. In infants and children, sleep problems
commonly present themselves as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)
or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
