Rocking for Cardiac Health at St. Catherine’s

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center’s Auxiliary held its 3rd Annual Rock-a-Thon on Tuesday, March 21st, raising $6,000 to benefit the expansion and renovation of St. Catherine’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

On a blustery Tuesday in March, about 35 determined participants, including elected officials, employees, volunteers and friends of St. Catherine’s “rocked away” in cozy rocking chairs strategically positioned in the main lobby of the hospital. Similar to a walk-a-thon, rockers solicited pledges from their family, friends and colleagues for each minute they rocked.

Commenting on the success of the event, Vincent DiRubbio, President and CEO of St. Catherine’s said, “The Auxiliary and everyone who contributed to the success of the Rock-a-Thon should be commended for their efforts. The funds raised will be earmarked for the expansion of our Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The expanded Cardiac Cath Lab will enable St. Catherine’s to respond to the growing demand for highly specialized cardiac services, including diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure.”

Everyone who participated was entered into a drawing for a rocking chair and received a complimentary “Heart Rock” commemorative t-shirt. The rocking chair, donated by Four Star Home and Variety Store, Northport, was won by Carol Melvin, a St. Catherine’s employee. Donations are still being accepted and can be mailed to the Auxiliary of St. Catherine of Siena, 50 Route 25A, Smithtown, NY 11787.
