Community Collaborations Increase EMS Education
St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center held its third EMS Dinner and Education Lectures Series at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Paul Taglienti, MD, lectured on “Cardiac Emergencies”, followed by “Pulmonary Emergencies”, presented by Joshua Bozek, DO.
St. Catherine’s EMS Dinner and Education Lectures Series is an initiative coordinated by the Community Outreach Program to foster excellence in health care services through improved communication and education. The medical center offers the free dinner and lecture, including CMS credits for EMS personnel quarterly, throughout the year. The EMS dinners are a direct result of St. Catherine’s 2014-2016 Community Service Plan to fortify a comprehensive approach to assessing community health, and developing and implementing action plans to improve community health through member and partner engagement.
Also in attendance to help spread awareness about the prevention and treatment of drug and alcohol related problems was Director of Horizons Counseling and Education Center Elaine Economopoulos, CASAC, CCP. Economopoulos educated EMS personnel about the resources provided by the center including confidential counseling, education, parent study groups, crisis intervention and referral information.
