East Northport Bristal Residents Give to the Littlest Ones
The Helping Hands Community volunteers of The Bristal Assisted Living of East Northport are using their hands and talents to bring comfort to newborns at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, the signature Bristal bus pulled up in front of the hospital to deliver 60 hand crochet hats and 13 baby blankets to the Maternity Department.
Irene Soulotis and Joyce Milani, just 2 of the 12 volunteers who have been crocheting the baby hats and blankets took the ride over to the hospital to deliver the items personally to Director of Maternity Services Neila Hernandez, NP, and Lactation/Perinatal Education Coordinator Jennifer L. Giordano, RN, BSN, IBCLC. “It feels so good to make something that others can enjoy,” said Irene Soulotis. “We love crocheting, and especially for the little babies,” said Joyce Milani.
St. Catherine’s Director of Community Relations and Volunteer Services Heather Reynolds, MBA, was thrilled to greet the volunteers and contributed two bags full of yarn to keep their efforts going. “We have partnered with several parishes in the area that have been donating yarn for palliative care blankets and items just like this,” said Mrs. Reynolds. “We are thrilled that we can supply a few rolls of yarn for hats and blankets for our newborns too.”
