FREE Heart Health Day on 2/13
February is all about hearts—and not just the cute and sweet “Be Mine” candies associated with Valentine’s Day, but it is the national month to educate Americans about heart disease and heart health.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, St. Catherine of Siena proudly participates in American Heart Month during February.
St. Catherine’s Community Outreach Program will be hosting a free Heart Health Day on Saturday, February 13, 2015, 9:30 am to 11:30 am, at its Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center, located at 52 Route 25A, Smithtown, New York.
Attendees are invited to sit in on free mini seminars about heart health, presented by St. Catherine’s health professionals. Attendees will also be invited to participate in free health screenings.
You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
• Watch your weight.
• Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
• Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
• If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
• Get active and eat healthy.
