Free Postpartum Depression Event on Saturday, May 2nd

April 30th, 2015

On Saturday, May 2nd, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center will participate in the Long Island Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Screening Day by hosting a free informational event at its campus located at 50 Route 25A, Smithtown, New York, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, hospital main lobby. The free event is in partnership with the Long Island Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Collaborative and will offer women and men the opportunity to “Ask the Question...Hear the Answer…Let Her Know She is Not Alone.” The goal of the event is to raise awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and to prove how easy and effective screening can be.

Each year in New York State alone, more than 50,000 mothers and fathers will experience a perinatal mood disorder and those parents need to know they are not alone, not to blame, and can overcome with help. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are common health concerns for mothers and fathers, and unfortunately, many suffering from theses medical illnesses go unrecognized and untreated. St. Catherine of Siena’s Maternity Department will be offering free perinatal mood disorders screenings and encourages anyone with concern to learn more about these medical conditions at this special event.

In Addition, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center will participate in the Postpartum Resource Center of New York’s 7th Annual Breaking the Silence 5K Run/Walk (Stroller-Walk and Kids Fun Run) on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Jones Beach State Park, Field 5. Registration will begin at 8 AM; race time is 9:30 AM, rain or shine. Help support New York State mothers, fathers and families for pregnancy and postpartum depression/anxiety awareness.
