Infants Forever Remembered
The Department of Pastoral Care at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center held a special memorial on Wednesday, October 5th, in honor of infants.
The Departments of Pastoral Care and Maternity collaborated to invite families who may have lost an infant to further support their healing process. The purpose of the service as explained by Director of Pastoral Care Elizabeth Meehan was “to remember the short lives of your babies—and as a reminder that there is no footprint too small that cannot leave an imprint on this world.” She also shared, “Our prayer is that this service will be of comfort to you and help heal your hearts.”
A special service was held in the Hospital’s Chapel, which was open to all families, staff, volunteers and visitors. Reverend Xavier Lakra started the ceremony with a thoughtful prayer, followed by a special reading from Psalm 55 by Reverend Mark Applewhite, and a Litany by Director of Pastoral Care Elizabeth Meehan. To close the indoor ceremony, there was a tribute to the infants in song with warming lyrics, “In my dreams you live on and you will live in my heart forever.”
After the ceremony, all those in attendance received a white long stem rose and then a beautiful dove release was held outside by the dedicated infant memorial statue (located in-between the Hospital and Medical Office Building).
