New Weight Management Program Arrives in Smithtown
Weight loss is a topic that can be difficult for some. It is estimated that Americans spend billions of dollars on diets, food programs and other alternatives to lose weight, and not always with the best success rates. St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is pleased to offer a new Weight Management Program, affiliated with Siena Proactive Internal Medicine on 323 Middle Country Road, Suite 3, in Smithtown.
On Tuesday, October 13, 2015, Deborah Blenner, MD, along with senior leadership from St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center held a ribbon cutting to officially welcome the program to the community. Smithtown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Barbara Franco was also in attendance to help cut the ceremonial ribbon and stated, “We welcome you and are happy to partner with you—you support us and we will continue to support you.”
As a faith-based organization, the facility was blessed by Father Xavier Lakra and Reverend Mark Applewhite. St. Catherine’s Executive Vice President/Chief Administrative Officer Paul J. Rowland was also in attendance and stated, “I think the program will be very successful in the community—this is just one piece, but a very important piece for weight management.”
“Our goal is to remove the barriers to your weight loss by determining why you gained the weight in the first place. Utilizing the latest medical breakthroughs and natural therapies, we will help you lose weight safely and effectively by using the latest FDA approved weight loss medications, natural weight loss supplements and hormones,” said Dr. Blenner. “We have built in a nutritional counseling by an experienced registered dietitian and a personal fitness trainer to design a program specifically for your needs.”
Robert Welling, former patient of Dr. Blenner came to support his support and share his success story. Mr. Welling started his journey with a similar program more than five years ago, under the management of Dr. Blenner. “I followed the medical instructions given to me by Dr. Blenner and the nutritional and physical regiment and it worked—it’s still working,” said, Mr. Welling. “I have tried just about everything—and if I did lose the weight—I would put it right back on. With this program I have been able to keep the weight off for more than five years—and I think that is because of the team approach.” Not only has Mr. Welling kept off the 80 pounds, he no longer needs to take insulin.
The Weight Management Program includes a comprehensive physical, detailed laboratory evaluation, medication review, metabolic rate testing to give exact measurements needed to succeed in dieting. Also there is a polar body age fit testing to assess overall fitness and the areas that may need more attention. There is full cardiac testing for those who may need. It is possible that some patients may need other modalities of treatments to aid in their successful weight loss such as psychotherapy or acupuncture.
